In another peaceful transition of power this week and after nearly three months since the first votes were cast, Victor Yushchenko will be inaugurated on Sunday in the third inauguration of the Ukraine since gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. The outgoing U.S. Secretary of State, Colin Powell, is expected to attend the Inauguration on Sunday…
“Let us dismantle our tent cities and begin a new political struggle that requires a different type of bravery and tenacity,” he said, speaking live on state television. Yushchenko’s inauguration will echo the popular uprising that helped sweep him to office. After a ceremony in the Parliament on Sunday at noon, he will head to Kiev’s Independent Square, the center of the demonstrations that he rode to victory. An inaugural ball will include the pop singers who gave the protests a soundtrack.
