Russian soldiers cleaned up on the terrorist operations in Nalchik early Friday by eliminating the remaining 8 terrorists and freeing the 7 hostages who were walled up in a police station and store.

Five militants were also killed not far from Nalchik:

Five militants have been killed and one detained in the city of Chegem, 15 kilometers away from Nalchik, a source in the local law-enforcement agencies said Friday.

According to the source, militants attacked police from Chegem Thursday and then tried to escape. They were found in a cornfield and killed.

Update: (7:00 PM CST) Twelve civilians and 24 members of the security forces died in violence. 91 attackers had been killed and at least 36 captured. (BBC)
