Earthquake in St. Louis

Rumblings in the Gateway City.

I was sitting last night at the computer on my second floor when I felt the house shake a bit like a semi was passing outside. It’s not that my house shakes when semis pass by (they don’t come down this street) it is just what comes to mind to describe the slight rumbling I felt. I just noticed tonight that a tiny earthquake hit the St. Louis region last night.

This is not really that surprising. St. Louis sits on or near the New Madrid fault. In 1800-1812 there was a massive earthquake in New Madrid, Missouri that leveled the community and shook homes all the way to Washington D.C. As rumor has it, the earthquke also was so powerful that it made the Mississippi run backwards for a ways and changed its course permanently.

The rumblings were enough.
