Murtha "Huff n' Puffs" About SOTU Address

Despite the attacks from Representative Murtha, Donald Rumsfeld reported today that the terrorists are failing in Iraq,

* US forces turned over a section of Iraq the size of Kentucky to Iraqis, yesterday
* Rumsfeld says the insurgents are failing to stop progress
* Pentagon is having a hard time fighting terrorists in the media
* Insurgent attacks have dropped significantly since the first week of October
* Attacks are down from roughly 700 attacks per week to 400 per week

Representative John Murtha jumped from Code Pink’s website over to The Huffington Post today to rebut the Bush State of the Union Address:

The President defended his position to both the American public and the world by saying “we will continue to lead” but this does little to repair the damage done by the President’s failed policies.

Spreading democracy does not equate to or ensure stabilization. A safe world is a stable world. STABILITY is what is key here. Is the world safer today with the gains of Hamas in Palestine and Hezbollah in Lebanon? Is the world safer with an emboldened Iran? Is Iraq or the region more stable as a result of our military intervention in Iraq? What proof to we have that the President’s policies are working?

Iraq, the region and the United States and its neighbors will be safer, more secure and stable when we redeploy from Iraq and put the resources where they belong.

Rep. Murtha suggested that US troops be redeployed to Kuwait and Okinawa, Japan (?) to fight the War on Terror.

Murtha continues to describe the letter he sent to the president this morning:

This March will mark the beginning of the 4th year of the war in Iraq. In contrast, U.S. involvement in WWI came to an end after 19 months. Victory in Europe was declared in WWII after 3 years 5 months.

But, Murtha fails to put the “Iraqi Quagmire” into perspective:

Japan- VJ Day 8/15/1945- Constitution Ratified- 11/3/1946 1 Years 3 Months
Germany- VE Day 5/8/1945 Constitution Ratified- 5/23/1949 4 Years
Italy- VE Day 5/8/1945 Constitution Ratified- 12/11/1947 2 Years 7 Months
France- VE Day 5/8/1945 Constitution Ratified- (4th Version) 10/27/1946 (5th version) 10/4/1958 1,13 Years 5,5 Months
US- Declaration of Independence- 7/4/1776 Constitution Ratified- 9/17/1787 11 Years 2 Months
Iraq- Iraq War Began Ratification Election- 10/15/2005 2 Years 7 Months (since war began)
EU- In process

Murtha continues to repeat his false claims about the wishes of Iraqis, etc. And, the media continues to give Representative Murtha a pass on his exaggerated data of despair.

Meanwhile, Donald Rumsfeld commented to reporters today about the War in Iraq:

“How do we compete in this struggle in a way that can counter the ability of the enemy to lie, which we can’t do, (and) the ability of the enemy to not have a free media criticizing them? You don’t see much criticizing of them.”

Rumsfeld also reported that insurgent attacks on US and Iraqi forces have declined in Iraq.

Someone ought to demand that Murtha read this before he gives his next cut and run talk.
