Woops! Another Glitch for "Speaker" Pelosi

More bad news for Speaker Pelosi…

Earlier in his career the Democratic Leadership Council named Dario Herrera as one of the “100 Democrats to Watch” for the future of the party.

There was a reason for that…

The political figures that Dario Herrera admires most include Bill Clinton and Harry Reid.

Herrera faces a federal prison sentence after being convicted Friday of conspiracy, wire fraud and extortion:

Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., on Tuesday said he does not regret his relationship with Dario Herrera, a former Clark County commissioner who faces a federal prison sentence after being convicted Friday of conspiracy, wire fraud and extortion.

“I’m not going to pound on Dario,” Reid said. “He’s had enough pounding.”

But Reid said he was disappointed in Herrera, who was Reid’s handpicked candidate to run for the congressional seat won by Rep. Jon Porter, R-Nev., in 2002.

“I talked to him and specifically asked him during the congressional race if he was doing anything wrong because I had heard some rumors, and he said, ‘No,'” Reid said.

“I said, ‘Are you taking any money from anyone you shouldn’t?’ (Herrera answered) No,” Reid said. “And of course the evidence came out that he did some very bad things.”

Reid said he has kept in touch with Herrera “during all his travails.” He described Herrera, 32, as having “great talent” and a “tremendous intellect.”

“I think he’s young enough when he finishes whatever punishment the court metes out to him that he can still contribute to society,” Reid said.

Look for this “Democrat to Watch” to be out on the campaign trail soon… after he gets out of the slammer!

Another of Reid’s hand picked candidates was also convicted of accepting cash and campaign contributions from a strip club owner:

Erin Kenny, also a former Clark County commissioner, has pleaded guilty to accepting cash and campaign contributions from Michael Galardi, the owner of three Southern Nevada strip clubs. She is awaiting sentencing.

Although Harry Reid has been tough on Republicans on the Abramoff scandal, Reid himself has acknowledged receiving almost $61,000 from Abramoff’s clients and colleagues and says he will not return them.

Michigan Governor, Jennifer Granholm, who is in a tight race for re-election with Dick DeVos this year, was forced to pay more than $800 in penalties and interest after failing to file two unemployment insurance reports on time for their children’s nanny.

The state placed a lien against their former home in Northville after they failed to file quarterly reports with the Unemployment Insurance Agency in the first and fourth quarters of 2003. The missing reports were filed last week.

Earlier this week the Democratic “progressive conservative” candidate in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, Brad Blanton, dropped a bomb on party leaders confessing that:

“I have run workshop groups involving nudity, used profanity in my books, have a comedy routine about establishing a new religion, ‘Futilitarianism,’ and have been arrested a number of times.”

He says this makes him a “progressive conservative” candidate.

Since, Blanton is the only democrat entered in the race, democratic party leaders are meeting on Saturday to decide whether to nominate Blanton or to choose not to have a candidate in the district.

Also, in the news this week…

While Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) continues his strong opposition to school vouchers that would allow poorer Americans access to private schools for their children, Conyers enrolls his own children in one of the nation’s priciest private schools.

Rep. Conyers spends upwards of $17,000.00 per year for his child to attend The Cranbrook School. It’s estimated that once the child reaches the ninth grade, the tuition will rise to over $21,000.00 per year.

Oh, well.

Pink Hawk has a different view.
