Democrats Legislate to Fight Al Qaeda in Iraq That Is Not In Iraq

You’ve got to love this one…
Democrats plan to handcuff American troops in Iraq to “only fight Al-Qaeda”…
The same Al-Qaeda they say is not in Iraq!

Just two months ago… On November 28, 2006 Speaker Pelosi said this about Al Qaeda in Iraq:

House Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told reporters on Wednesday that she feels it is “sad” that President Bush continues to blame Iraqi insurgent violence on al Qaeda.

“My thoughts on the president’s representations are well-known,” Pelosi said. “The 9/11 Commission dismissed that notion a long time ago and I feel sad that the president is resorting to it again.”

In August… Democratic Leader Howard Dean said this about Al Qaeda in Iraq that was posted on the democratic party website:

“The occupation in Iraq is costing American lives and hampering our ability to fight the real global war on terror against al Qaeda and the resurgence of the Taliban in Afghanistan, not to mention dealing with the threats posed by Iran and North Korea.”

So, to recap… The reason we’re leaving Iraq, according to democrats from their own website, is to fight the real War on Terror and Al Qaeda… But, its OK to fight Al Qaeda in Iraq as long as you are sure that they are Al Qaeda while we move our troops out of Iraq to fight Al Qaeda.
Got that?

The current leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri, is reported to have run terrorist training camps in southern Iraq when he took refuge there in 2001.

Today… Democrats are proposing to put stipulations on the president in fighting the War in Iraq. The AP reports on one version of the democratic bill for fighting the War in Iraq:

One version would restrict American troops in Iraq to fighting al-Qaida, training Iraqi army and police forces, maintaining Iraq’s territorial integrity and otherwise proceeding with the withdrawal of combat forces.

Got that?
Democrats want our soldiers to only fight Al Qaeda in Iraq that isn’t in Iraq!
Brilliant!

Now democrats want our soldiers to interview insurgents before they shoot!
