UPDATE: US identifies 4th soldier killed in the attack.
CNN reported this sad news on Friday:
A fourth soldier identified as killed in an Iraqi ambush that left three other troops missing had a great sense of humor and the “metabolism of a god,” his platoon leader said Friday.
The Army told family members Thursday that Sgt. Anthony J. Schober, 23, of Reno, Nevada, was among the dead from Saturday’s attack, said his uncle, Robert Schober of Minden, Nevada.
Rest in peace, Sgt. Anthony J. Schober.
The three US soldiers attacked on Saturday near Mahmoudiya are still missing.
The missing US soldiers from Mahmoudiya: Alex Jimenez and his wife Yaderlin Jimenez -Via IraqSlogger(top left), Pvt. Byron W. Fouty (top right), Pfc. Joseph J. Anzack Jr. (bottom left), and Sgt. Anthony J. Schober (bottom right). Three of these soldiers have been missing since Saturday. One of the soldiers had his dog tags removed by the terrorists and was so badly burned that he has not yet been identified.
There were more details released on the attack in the last 24 hours:
12 to 15 soldiers in Humvees were stationed about 450 to 550 yards (a quarter of a mile) to the north of the site, and a dozen or so more were about 875 yards (a half mile) to the south. Both groups of soldiers drove to help their comrades after hearing the explosion, and pilotless aircraft discovered the burning vehicles, he said.
It was unclear how the Humvees had been attacked, though commanders suspected that grenades or rocket-propelled grenades had been involved.
The group to the north discovered crushed wire and two bombs on their way to the burning vehicles. The group from the south also found a bomb.
Another report said the missing soldiers were dragged from their humvees about 45 feet to another vehicle. The fact that the soldiers were dragged suggests they were badly injured during the attack.
HotAir reports that- “Some of the jihadis involved in the abduction have been detained and some of what may be the missing troops’ equipment has been recovered.”
