American Haleh Esfandiari to Be Released by Iranian Regime

American scholar Dr. Haleh Esfandiari was taken into custody Dec. 30 during a visit to Iran and interrogated for months. On Tuesday, May 8, 2007, she was arrested and sent to Tehran’s Evin prison- Serendip.

Fars News just reported:

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Haleh Esfandyari, the Iranian academic who is a resident of the US and was arrested by Tehran officials on charges of harming national security, will soon be released on bail, an informed source from Iran’s judiciary said on Tuesday.

The source told FNA that the court is now through with investigations, “and thus she won’t be detained any more and will be released on bail.”

Haleh Esfandiari, 67, was released for a bail of 3bn rial ($320,000; £160,000), according to Isna.
