Can Ambassador of Peace Clooney Save Darfur?

Peaceful George Clooney became a UN ambassador of peace this week.

Claudia Rossett has a few questions about his latest role.

Clooney, of course, has spoken out against the genocide in Darfur wanting to commit international troops to squash the killing.

Today it was reported by the BBC that Sudanese authorities gave a senior government position to a man accused of co-ordinating the Janjaweed Arab militia in Darfur. The minister of federal affairs, Abdel Basit Sabderat, said clan leader Musa Hilal had been named as his adviser.

This could be the perfect opportunity for the new ambassador. Send Ambassador Clooney to Sudan to condemn this atrocious act by the regime and insist that Abdel Basit Sabderat be removed from office.
Surely the regime would immediately respond to this peace ambassador.

UPDATE: Maybe Clooney could join efforts with Osama Bin Laden’s son and bring planetary peace?

Omar bin Laden, 26, intends to become an ambassador for peace between the Muslim and the Western world. It’s worth a try. They could start by talking with his father.
