Fool me once, shame on you… Fool me twice, shame on me…
Yesterday Speaker John Boehner called the President and said he would negotiate directly with Senate Leaders Reid & McConnell after Obama’s latest debt negotiation antics. Being the politician that he is, Obama rushed to hold a press conference within an hour after he received this news to try and save face.
Speaker Boehner then held his own press conference to explain what really happened to cause the talks to break down. Boehner explained that Barack Obama pulled a fast one at the last minute and demanded larger tax hikes than were agreed upon.
After this slick move by Obama, Boehner announced that moving forward, he would work with Congressional leaders to come up with a debt plan.
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) held a news conference at the Capitol to talk about how the White House’s insistence on raising taxes led to a breakdown in discussions over increasing the debt limit. In a letter to colleagues, Boehner announced he would instead work with congressional leaders of both parties to pursue legislation that avoids default, reflects the will of the American people, and is consistent with the principles of the Cut, Cap, & Balance Act that passed the House with bipartisan support.
Today, Republican Speaker John Boehner released a statement following talks at the White House. Once again the Republican leader said Congressional leaders will work to resolve the debt problem – without Obama.
WASHINGTON, DC (Jul 23)
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement regarding ongoing work on a deficit reduction package:
“As I said last night, over this weekend Congress will forge a responsible path forward. House and Senate leaders will be working to find a bipartisan solution to significantly reduce Washington spending and preserve the full faith and credit of the United States.”
