Acting IRS chief Daniel Werfel was back in front of Congress testifying before the powerful House Ways and Means Committee hearing today. This was after the IRS Inspector General released a report this morning revealing the IRS targeted 292 conservative groups and only 6 progressive groups.
Werfel brought with him a stack of highly redacted IRS documents that were distributed to the committee members. This upset Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) who blasted the sitting IRS chief for withholding information from the committee.
“This is junk! This is junk!… And you’re hiding behind it and I’m putting you on notice. This committee intends to uphold the 1998 act. And, we’re going to follow through on it to make sure the IRS is forthcoming and not creating a bunch of nonsense hiding behind bureaucratic double-talk.”
