This email was sent out by Cheri Jimeno, Ph.D., the President of New Mexico State University Alamogordo to the university students on Friday October 31, 2014.
Jimeno encourages students to vote early and often.
“Remember – early voting is available through Saturday. Please be sure to turn over your ballots to read about GO Bond A, GO Bond B and GO Bond C. Yep, Bond B and C have a direct (and wonderful) impact on NMSU-A. So, if you are going to vote “yes” on the bonds, I would encourage you to vote as often as possible…..the passage of any of the bonds will NOT increase taxes!”
Here’s a copy of the email.
(the phone number was redacted)
After our report on Sunday President Jimeno “clarified” her comments on Monday morning.
She blamed the students.
Here’s Jimeno’s latest email – It’s the students’ fault.
Unfortunately, we have some individuals who really think you can cast your ballot more than once. As you know, we have poll workers who watch the process very carefully—you can only cast your ballot once. You should also educate individuals of other voting regulations; for example, you must be at least 18 years of age, a citizen of the Unities States, not legally declared mentally incapacity, not a convicted felon or a felon who has completed all of the terms and conditions of sentencing, and yep, you must be registered.
From my student source:
It is chilling to read how demeaning Jimeno really is once the light is brought upon her. Her email is a cleanup post in response to you bringing it to national awareness, yet she refuses to acknowledge her first email was incorrect… No instead, as the powerful woman that she is, she places the blame on some student (me) for misunderstanding the voting process and how things truly are.
