Pope Francis Calls Fatah Terror Leader an “Angel of Peace” During Visit

In July 2013 Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas awarded the “highest order of the Star of Honor” to arch-terrorist Nayef Hawatmeh.

Hawatmeh’s group killed 22 schoolchildren and 4 adults after taking them hostage in Ma’alot, the killing of 9 children and 3 adults in an attack on a school bus, the killing of 7 in a Jerusalem bombing, the killing of 4 hostages in an apartment building in Beit Shean.

This was the latest illustration of Abbas and the PA to glorify terrorists responsible for murdering Israelis, as documented by Palestinian Media Watch.

In April the Abbas government glorified the arch-terrorist who planned the killings of 125 innocents.

Despite this, Pope Francis met with Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas and called him an “angel of peace” during his visit to the Vatican.
The AP reported:

Pope Francis praised Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas as an “angel of peace” during a meeting Saturday at the Vatican that underscored the Holy See’s warm relations with the Palestinians.

Francis made the compliment during the traditional exchange of gifts at the end of an official audience in the Apostolic Palace. He presented Abbas with a medallion and explained that it represented the “angel of peace destroying the bad spirit of war.”
