The Border Patrol union announced late Wednesday they would no longer be hosting Donald Trump for his trip to the open US border with Mexico today.
The AFL-CIO banned members from meeting with Donald Trump after they heard he was invited to the border by Local 2455.
MySanAntonio reported:
Donald Trump will still visit the border here despite reports that the branch of the Border Patrol union that invited him backed out, Trump’s campaign said.
The Laredo local of the National Border Patrol Council said it’s no longer hosting the Republican presidential candidate, who the chapter had invited to tour the border.
“As Local 2455, our intentions to meet with Mr. Trump was to provide a ‘Boots on the Ground’ perspective to not only Mr. Trump, but to the media that would be in attendance at this event,” Hector Garza, the Laredo union’s president, said in a statement posted online. “Just to be clear, an endorsement was never discussed for any presidential candidate. Local 2455 does not endorse candidates for any political office.”
Here is the full statement from Local 2455.
UPDATE: Donald Trump posted this response.
