AL.com reported:

A Dothan middle school teacher who was captured on cell phone video holding a student in a chokehold after breaking up a fight between two students received death threats, according to reports.

In an interview with WTVY, the teacher’s attorney Jason Brogden didn’t go into detail about the threats. He said the teacher, a former U.S. Marine whose name was never released, does hope to return to work.

The investigation into the teacher’s actions remains under investigation by the Dothan City Schools. A voicemail message left for Superintendent Charles Ledbetter by AL.com wasn’t immediately returned.

The Dothan Police Department decided not to file charges against the teacher.

This fight between two students at Honeysuckle Middle School on Wednesday, Oct. 21 was captured on cell phone video and subsequently posted on social media. The video shows a male teacher grab a student around the neck and pull him to the ground.

Dozens of students appeared to be milling around in the school’s hallway during the fight.

Dothan Police Lt. Will Glover told AL.com last week that the teacher was trying to do what he could to defuse “a very volatile situation.”
