The shoot down of the SU-24 Russian jet in Turkey was followed by reports a rescue helicopter was shot down.
The Free Syrian Army, a rebel group of former Syrian military officers, took credit for the incident.

Turkey is a NATO ally. Russia in recent months has been aggressively challenging air space and territorial waters of Western adversaries.
NATO announced it will be holding an emergency session on the shooting down of the Russian plane by Turkey.
