UPDATED: Leftists Outraged After Trump Releases Statement on Shooting Death of Dwyane Wade’s Cousin on Chicago Sidewalk

UPDATES AT END OF ARTICLE. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s statement on Twitter Saturday about the shooting death on Friday of Nykea Aldridge, the cousin of Chicago Bulls star Dwyane Wade while she was pushing a baby stroller down a Chicago sidewalk has sparked controversy.

Sadly the circumstance of Aldridge’s murder is exactly what Trump has been speaking about in recent speeches about wanting to improve the safety of African-Americans.

“Dwayne (sic) Wade’s cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!”

Trump has made a recent push for support from the African-American community by vowing, in part, to make it safe for Blacks to walk down the street without getting shot.

““It’s a disaster the way African-Americans are living in many cases,” he said in Ohio in August. “We’ll get rid of the crime. You’ll be able to walk down the street without getting shot. Right now, you walk down the street, you get shot.”

Dwayne Wade posted to Twitter Friday night about his cousin’s murder.

“My cousin was killed today in Chicago. Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal. #EnoughIsEnough”

The Chicago Tribune reported on the shooting death of Aldridge:

Chicago basketball star Dwyane Wade’s cousin was shot dead while she was pushing her baby in a stroller Friday afternoon near an elementary school in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood, according to police and a family spokesman.

Nykea Aldridge, 32, and a man were walking in the 6300 block of South Calumet Avenue about 3:30 p.m. when two men approached and someone began firing at the man, authorities and the family spokesman said.

Aldridge was hit in the head and the arm and taken to Stroger Hospital, where she died, police said. The baby was not hurt, and a relative came to the scene and took the child, police said.

Aldridge had gone to register her children at Dulles School of Excellence when the shooting happened, said the Rev. Edward Jones Sr., a spokesman for the family. The school is next to the Parkway Gardens apartment complex where Aldridge had lived for about four months, Jones said.”

The Trump hating New York Daily News was first to attack Trump over his statement.

Leftist news site Vox slammed Trump with the headline, “Donald Trump just made his worst tweet yet.”

The Daily Beast criticized Trump with this headline, “Trump Appears to Gloat Over Chicago Shooting”

UPDATES:

“Trump tweets corrected tweet about Dwyane Wade’s cousin: Spells Dwyane Wade’s name right:”

Trump deleted and replaced his original tweet to correct the spelling of Dwyane Wade’s first name. He later posted condolences to the family.

“Dwyane Wade’s cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!”

“My condolences to Dwyane Wade and his family, on the loss of Nykea Aldridge. They are in my thoughts and prayers.”

Dwyane Wade has apparently not commented on Trump’s statements, however he has posted to Twitter Saturday about his cousin’s murder.

“RIP Nykea Aldridge… #EnoughIsEnough”

“The city of Chicago is hurting. We need more help& more hands on deck. Not for me and my family but for the future of our world. The YOUTH!”

“These young kids are screaming for help!!! #EnoughIsEnough

The AP reported on Wade’s involvement in the Chicago community.

“Wade, whose charitable organization, Wade’s World Foundation, does community outreach in the Chicago area, signed with the Chicago Bulls in July after 13 years with the Miami Heat. He and his mother, pastor Jolinda Wade, participated Thursday via satellite in a town hall meeting in Chicago on gun violence hosted by ESPN.”
