Report: Anti-Trump Protester Tries to Set Himself on Fire at Trump Hotel in DC

A man told a reporter he tried to set himself on fire Tuesday night in front of the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. to protest President-elect Donald Trump.

WRC-TV reporter Shomari Stone posted video to Twitter of his on scene interview with the man. The man did not apparently succeed in setting himself ablaze as he appeared uninjured. A small fire was seen burning in the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the hotel.

The man told Stone he is from California and set the fire to protest Trump being a “dictator who’s been elected” and is “incapable of respecting the Constitution of the United States.”

“#BREAKING: Man lights fire near #TrumpInternationalHotel. Employees call police. Man told me he’s from CA & protesting #TrumpInauguration”

“NEW VIDEO #BREAKING: Man says Trump is a dictator. He tried to light himself on fire at #TrumpInternationalHotel for #TrumpInauguration – at Trump international Hotel”

UPDATE: The AP reports the man was hospitalized with non-life threatening burns.

“D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Vito Maggiolo says an ambulance was sent to the area of the Pennsylvania Avenue hotel. Maggiolo says a man with burn injuries was taken to a hospital with potentially serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.”
