NOW: Heritage Foundation Ousts CEO Jim DeMint

The Heritage Foundation asked for and received the resignation of President Jim DeMint on Tuesday.

Former Senator, Jim DeMint stepped away from the conservative think tank after alleged “significant and worsening management issues”, a statement by the Heritage Foundation’s Chairman Thomas Saunders III specified.

The statement via the Heritage Foundation:

The Heritage Foundation’s Board of Trustees, by a unanimous vote, has asked for and received the resignation of Jim DeMint as president and CEO of the organization.

. . .

After a comprehensive and independent review of the entire Heritage organization, the Board determined there were significant and worsening management issues that led to a breakdown of internal communications and cooperation. While the organization has seen many successes, Jim DeMint and a handful of his closest advisers failed to resolve these problems.

Some rumblings are pointing to the notion that the “management” issues that were at odds with the founder’s vision of the think tank really had more to do with DeMint pushing the Heritage Foundation toward being more of a “political committee” to support now-President Trump than actual shortcomings in management practice. Fuelner, the founder, wanted to keep it as a “pure conservatism” think tank.
