CNN Sister Network TNT Announces New Sponsorship of Trump Assassination Play

CNN sister network TNT will be sponsoring the final two performances this weekend of the Trump assassination play Shakespeare in the Park production of Julius Caesar by the Public Theater in New York City’s Central Park. The cable network is using the sponsorship of the graphic assassination of President Donald Trump on stage to promote a new series about Shakespeare, Will, scheduled to premiere on July 10.

TNT will set up an Elizabethan marketplace outside the Delacourt Theater to promote the series, reported Playbill.

The new TNT series Will, which dramatizes the origin story of a young William Shakespeare, is sponsoring the final June 17–18 performances of the Public Theater’s free Shakespeare in the Park production of Julius Caesar at the Delacorte Theater.

In the areas surrounding the outdoor venue, TNT will bring to life the world of the Elizabethan Marketplace with music, performers, and giveaways, including Will-branded totes, temporary tattoos, and koozies with the purchase of select beverages.

The announcement follows the recent loss of sponsorships and controversy surrounding the Oskar Eustis-helmed production, which depicts Caesar as a Trump-like politician.”

Broadway World also reported on TNT’s sponsorship.
