REPORT: Meddling EU Urged Theresa May to Hold Snap Election in Hopes to ‘Derail’ Brexit

Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, pressured British PM Theresa May into holding the General Election to “make negotiating Brexit easier”.

Juncker alleged that May’s 17-seat majority was not enough for exit talks. Juncker urged May to hold the election in an effort to gain a larger majority that would help May during “pinch points” (things like “establishing the sum of the U.K.’s divorce bill”). Juncker, just like the rest of us, did not know what the outcome would be and it was a total gamble that paid off for him and the rest of the European left-wing in the end, not May.

May is on weaker footing than when she began and she faces calls for her resignation.

The Sunday Express reports:

A European Union source claimed: “During bilaterals, in the margins of summits, Juncker repeatedly told her he thought she should do it.”

A second diplomat told the Observer: “People don’t understand. We want a deal more than anyone. We are professionals, we have a mandate to get a deal and we want to be successful in that.”

Mr Juncker and Mrs May’s relationship has become increasingly strained in recent months, made even worse after it was revealed his team leaked details of a dinner between the pair at Downing Street.
