Democrat House Staffer Takes Down Misleading Video of Trump ‘Ignoring’ Child in Wheelchair that Prompted Potter Author JK Rowling Meltdown

In a rare sign of decency in today’s bitter political environment surrounding the presidency of Donald Trump, a Democrat House staffer has taken down a video that appeared to show President Trump shunning a child in a wheelchair as he was departing a recent White House event. The staffer took the video down after it was pointed out to him by this writer that Trump had warmly greeted the child upon entering the event, bending over to shake the child’s hand and speaking directly to the child while the parents standing behind the child beamed.

The Washington Free Beacon reported on the video on Friday and focused on the lack of context of Trump greeting the child. The setting was an event on Monday led by Trump to highlight victims of Obamacare in an effort to persuade Congress to repeal and replace the controversial law.

The original (now deleted) video posted by Ansel Herz, who serves as Deputy Communications Director for Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), was picked up by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling who had a meltdown on Twitter, accusing Trump of being a “monster of narcissism” during an eight tweet tirade.

Herz’s follow-up tweet from Friday night read, “Deleted an earlier tweet because it turned out to be missing some context. Apologies.”

Herz’s video clip, of course, lives on online.

Someone who identifies themselves as not being a “fan of Trump” posted the context that prompted Herz to take down the video clip.

Rowling’s anti-Trump rant, which began with a quote from Maya Angelou and included a link to Herz’s video clip, garnered nearly 150,000 likes and nearly 75,000 retweets in under 24 hours, “‘When someone shows you who they are, believe them.’ – Maya Angelou.”

Rowling’s rant continued:

Trump imitated a disabled reporter. Now he pretends not to see a child in a wheelchair, as though frightened he might catch his condition.

This monster of narcissism values only himself and his pale reflections. The disabled, minorities, transgender people, the poor, women (unless related to him by ties of blood, and therefore his creations) are treated with contempt, because they do not resemble Trump.

My mother used a wheelchair. I witnessed people uncomfortable around her disability, but if they had a shred of decency they got over it. 1/

So, yes, that clip of Trump looking deliberately over a disabled child’s head, ignoring his outstretched hand, has touched me on the raw. /2

That man occupies the most powerful office in the free world and his daily outrages against civilised norms are having a corrosive effect /3

How stunning, and how horrible, that Trump cannot bring himself to shake the hand of a small boy who only wanted to touch the President. /4x”

As of this writing Rowling had not responded to this writer’s tweets informing her the Herz video lacked the context of President Trump warmly greeting the child in the wheelchair.
