‘Berlin Airlift’ Round-the-Clock Relief Flights to Puerto Rico as Media, Dems, GOPe Smear Trump Over Hurricane Response

The anti-Trump media, Democrats and GOPe are running a smear campaign against President Donald Trump, falsely accusing him of ignoring Puerto Rico after the island territory was devastated by Hurricane Maria last week. They are ignoring the words of praise from Puerto Rico officials and in some cases their own reporting to attack Trump.

A case in point is MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace who staged a bash Trump roundtable discussion on Puerto Rico on her 4 p.m. EDT show. Wallace, a Bush-McCain Republican opened the show by snidely asking if Trump even knows Puerto Ricans are American citizens.

Hillary Clinton used the same attack on Trump on Monday.

After several minutes of trashing Trump by the likes of former President Barack Obama’s White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest and the Washington Post’s Eugene Robinson, Wallace turned to NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt who was reporting from Savannah Air National Guard Base in Georgia where he had returned from accompanying a relief flight to Puerto Rico and St. Croix.

Holt reported a “robust operation” at the air base, which was coordinating all National Guard relief flights to the hurricane zone. Holt added guard units from all across the country were being brought in.

Holt went on to explain that the flights started five days ago and had ramped up to a round-the-clock air bridge of mainly C-130s that was being compared, he said, to the Berlin Airlift.

Holt agreed with the description by Trump that being an island far from the U.S. mainland made it harder to get relief supplies in quickly. Holt said it was a 4-1/2 hour flight each way.

Interestingly, Holt had no words of criticism for Trump in his nearly five minute segment with Wallace.

As TGP has reported since Sunday, Puerto Rico officials are ‘grateful’ and have been praising the proactive response by Trump and his administration.

BREAKING: Puerto Rico Gov. Rossello ‘Very Grateful’ to Pres. Trump, Praises Federal Govt Response to Hurricane Maria

Gov. Rossello spoke to PBS on Monday about Pres. Trump’s response to the hurricane.

JOHN YANG: Governor, are you getting all the aid you need or getting it fast enough from the states?

GOV. RICARDO ROSSELLO: First of all, we are very grateful for the administration. They have responded quickly.

The president has been very attentive to the situation, personally calling me several times. FEMA and the FEMA director have been here in Puerto Rico twice. As a matter of fact, they were here with us today, making sure that all the resources in FEMA were working in conjunction with the central government.

We have been working together. We have been getting results. The magnitude of this catastrophe is enormous. This is going to take a lot of help, a lot of collaboration. So, my call is to congressmen and congresswomen to take action quickly and conclusively with an aid package for Puerto Rico.

We are in the midst of potentially having a humanitarian crisis here in Puerto Rico which would translate to a humanitarian crisis in the United States. So, I call upon Congress to take action immediately. You know, Puerto Ricans are proud U.S. citizens…

Trump took heavy criticism for pointing out Puerto Rico’s troubled finances in a series of tweets on the hurricane disaster, yet Gov. Rossello made the same point earlier in the day in an interview with CBS News.

The irresponsible and falsely malicious attacks on President Trump about his response could have a detrimental effect on the morale of Puerto Ricans trapped on the island and their loved ones here in the States. The fact is Trump has been engaged from before the hurricane hit and his administration is pouring workers (over 10,000) and relief supplies into Puerto Rico ’round-the-clock’.
