Green Skater God Beto O’Rourke: The Apocalypse Is Nigh

Guest post by Ted Malloch author of Davos, Aspen and Yale

Did you hear?

It was just announced by Beto, pseudo-punk skateboarder and now another ‘hip’ Democrat for President candidate in 2020, that — the Apocalypse is coming.

Yes, it will be here in exactly 12 years, he confirms.

He is not quite original with this, as his comrade in arms AOC, announced this already in her $93 trillion dollar, Green New Deal.

But you better take it seriously!

BIG NEWS: We have but 12 years on this planet before we all go EXTINCT.

That is precisely 4,380 days, if you are counting.

I have marked my diary.

Millinarists for centuries have been preaching such doom – hence the name, “doomsday”–—and all have been proven wrong.

But this new political scare, reminiscent of boomer Al Gore’s movie, Inevitable Truth, about ecocide is catching hold.

What is the “apocalypse,” anyway?

This is not comic book or horror film, zombie material; the apocalypse is the final and complete destruction of the world, as described originally in the biblical account presented in the book of Revelation.

Now in those ancient religious accounts there is plenty of symbolic imagery and an expectation of imminent cosmic cataclysm, where God destroys the ruling powers of evil and raises the righteous to life in a messianic and eternal kingdom.

In our thoroughly secular era of Beto and AOC, there is no theological premise, just a vapid liberal fake prophetic vision of looming environmental disaster.

Not based on science, as much as ideology and scare tactics, the new horse (persons, not men) of this apocalypse are not the familiar: conquest, war, famine and death.

They are now instead: climate change, reduced food production, population growth, petro-energy, and depleted resources and groundwater.

We have been told about this confluence of forces since at least 1853, when the romanticist, John Martin painted an anti-industrial canvas called, The Great Days of His Wrath.

Nowadays, desolation results from unchecked collective human action, not divine wrath.

But works like The Population Bomb (1968) and The Limits to Growth (1972), already foreshadowed what we presently encounter from these crazy Red Democrats.

This is truly old wine in new bottles with a bold narcissistic twist.

The nascent lamentators and catastrophists burst with much self-importance.

They, and only they, see the truth—know the definitive future.

Truthfully, the remedy to this new nihilism may be

counter intuitively, the celebration of our abundance and technology.

Don’t weep, gnash your teeth, or rend your clothes.

Take a deep breath and enjoy all you have, know, are given and earn.

Be gracious and thankful.

Do not despair.

Mark my words there is NO probability that the world will end in a dozen years.

Do not, like all those mad cults of yore, sell your possessions and go to the mountaintop with these nouveau radicals, Beto and AOC.

Instead, keep calm and carry on.

Eat, Pray, Love and repeat…
