Escape From New Orleans

Republicans and the Bush Administration made a gigantic error this week. This I will agree with the Liberal Democratic Mainstream Media (LDMSM). While the Bush Administration was saving lives, the LDMSM was planning their assault on the Bush Administration. The Republicans should have known better.

Here is the latest on the political attacks following Hurricane Katrina…

First more on the failed Louisiana State and Local response:

(From Instapundit who always seems so level headed!)

Buried at the end of the WaPo‘s critical article on FEMA’s decline is this crucial paragraph:

Other federal and state officials pointed to Louisiana’s failure to measure up to national disaster response standards, noting that the federal plan advises state and local emergency managers not to expect federal aid for 72 to 96 hours, and base their own preparedness efforts on the need to be self-sufficient for at least that period. “Fundamentally the first breakdown occurred at the local level,” said one state official who works with FEMA. ‘Did the city have the situational awareness of what was going on within its borders? The answer was no.”

Measuring from the passage of the storm from the target area — say 1500 hours on Monday, THE PLAN would therefore expect federal aid at the earliest at midday Thursday.

Does this excuse any bureaucratic errors that we will find to have been made? No. But it should put the federal response in perspective.

I was wondering where the great Senator Mary Landrieu had been hiding this week. Today is the first I had heard from her since Katrina hit land… and I do watch quite a bit of news!

It appears she has shelved her southern hospitality!

(from Little Green Footballs)

Sen. Mary Landrieu threatened the president of the United States with physical violence on Sunday, saying that if he or any other government official criticizes New Orleans police for failing to keep civil order in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina – “I might likely have to punch him – literally.”

“If one person criticizes [our sheriffs], or says one more thing, including the president of the United States, he will hear from me – one more word about it after this show airs and I – I might likely have to punch him – literally,” Landrieu railed on “ABC’s ”This Week.”

Mark this down as another loser in the politics of Katrina. Threatening the president with physical violence does not win you brownie points unless you work for MoveOn.org (who still hasn’t moved on… nearly a year after their failed move for the White House!).

I wonder if Jesse Jackson will stand for this threat of violence against our president? Or is it only when Communist Leaders from Venezuela get threatened that Jesse raises a stink?

Freedom for Americans continues to document the list of state and local government failures during this crisis. But, don’t let Mary Landrieu know unless you want to get your a$$ kicked!

Alenda Lux has a wild story from Reuters about National Guardsmen slaughtering kids in New Orleans. Only seen at Reuters!

And, get this…

The Houston-Galveston Area Emergency Blogger Network ( H-GAEBNET) today blasted Mayor Nagin and the NYT and called for a Federal criminal investigation of the NOLA Mayor and city officials, calling the NOLA city government’s failure to act decissively to evacuate the poor of the city before Katrina hit … “

The Anchoress has good news on Katrina Relief Drive.
