“It wouldn’t be unreasonable to have 10,000…”
Mayor Ray Nagin

Glenn Reynolds, the Instapundit has introduced a “Porkbuster” Project on the blogosphere to trim government fat in the wake of the great national cost to Hurricane Katrina.
Today I am throwing my suggestion into the pork barrel! I am focusing on Louisiana and New Orleans Parish in particular. I have found a quick way to save $240,000! After the Katrina disaster, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin estimated that the death in the New Orleans was going to clear 10,000. (This was at the same time that he told reporters that he had used public buses to transport people to the Astrodome rather than clear them from the threatened area. You can see the video in this post HERE.)

The state responded accordingly:
But the search for bodies will now take place on a house-to-house basis, and Mayor Ray Nagin had warned earlier this week that the death toll could reach 10,000. State emergency authorities had ordered 25,000 body bags.
He said 10,000, so the state ordered “25,000” body bags to be on the safe side!
Today the total casualties from this horrible killer in Louisiana is somewhere close to 579. (Mayor Nagin was only off by 94%, or 900%, or… He was off!)
My Porkbuster project is easy. Have Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco send back 24,000 body bags. At a cost to the state of $10 per bag (that is a deal for the biodegradable kind!) the state of Louisiana could save a quick $240,000 and still have plenty of the biodegradable bags left for future use!
