News Blab from Colorado Springs has more on Joel Hinrichs III.

In what has been reported on the internet for days now, FOX News is reporting that Hinrichs tried to purchase ammonium nitrate used for bomb-making before he blew himself up on Saturday miight 100 yards from the OU-KSU game.

A University of Oklahoma (search) student tried to buy fertilizer of the type used in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing two days before he committed suicide using explosives outside a packed football stadium.

Police said Thursday that the attempted purchase raised the suspicions of an off-duty officer who happened to be in the feed store at the time. But though an investigation had began, authorities were not able to act swiftly enough to stop the student from taking his own life.

However, the story does not follow other news reports that the bomber had tried to enter the stadium on Saturday night:

Nobody else was injured, and FBI and university officials have said there was no indication he tried to get in the stadium or that he had any links to terrorism.

The Ox Rant carried the videos on the investigation from NewsOK.com yesterday that says otherwise.

Also, World Net Daily is reporting today that the search warrant is sealed used to execute a search of Hinrich’s apartment.

More speculaton on the bombing by one reader, Cao, who wrote in yesterday:

I have seen at many sites like this one evidence indicating there was shrapnel in that bomb he set off (or that went off accidetnally). If there was shrapnel in the bomb that made holes in a nearby tree, wouldn’t this indicate something worse than merely attempted suicide?

The holes appear to be about the size of the head of 16 penny nail.

The London bombings were also done with nail bombs.

“And the nails are put there so that when the bomb goes off, the nails will tear tissue and kill people in the area. Bombs don’t kill by concussion. Small bombs, they kill by the blast effects of fragments of glass or metal, and this is designed to kill people.”

I think those people in the stadium were pretty damned lucky.

And, here was a great comment written by someone who was at the game on Saturday:

I was at the football game and heard the explosion. Everyone immediately turned around to look. A man sitting behind me said “That sounded like a bomb.” I was not living in OKC when the Murrah Building was bombed so I didn’t know what a bomb was supposed to sound like. However, it was obvious that is was not fireworks, or the guns that are fired by the “Ruf-Neks” during the game.

Everyone thought the explosion was curious, but amazingly no one really thought any more of it. Toward the end of the game, the announcer asked everyone to stay away from the south and east sides of the stadium. Everyone was very calm walking out of the stadium (we were sitting in the north end zone) and I thought it was very odd that no one was talking about it!

When we got to our car, there was a tailgate party nearby with a t.v. and they were watching another football game. I asked if there was any news of the explosion. They had heard rumors (from other fans) that it was indeed a bomb and that someone had been killed. Just as they were turning the channel to find any news, the generator went out. So I waited until we got in the car and turned on the radio. Again, no news.

For the first few days, there was very little news coming out about the bomb. Finally, the president of OU made a pretty lame statement that no one in the stadium was in any danger and there was nothing more to this than a depressed young man. Now, of course, there are several theories and much speculation that this was something more. I would like to think that Boren was right, but I’m not that naive, and the evidence that is coming out seems to contradict him.

The point of my comment today is that I am shocked at the lack of attention to this story by both the local and national media. Perhaps it’s out there and I’m just missing it, but I’ve found just as little info on the internet. I commented to my husband days ago that this seemed to be the first “suicide bombing” on US soil since 9/11 that I knew of. Independent of any political and/or religious motives or not, this seems like big new to me. Am I the only one that feels this way?

The Jawa Report is saying that (on 10-7) there may be further arrests made in the case!

“Stop the Hate” had a meeting last night at the cathedral in Oklahoma City to discuss diversity and better understanding between the Christian and Muslim communities, VIDEO HERE

The guest speaker was a young woman who spent time in Damascus, Syria. She said that Muslims feel sad about the image people get when they think of Islam and that Muslims wish to change that. There were no Muslims interviewed.

Michelle Malkin is reporting that Blogger Mark Tapscott, who has been breaking news on the Oklahoma bomber story, is scheduled to be on FOX News today at 12:45pm EDT.
