Rep. Murtha Urges Recruits "Not" to Join Military

Is Bush seeing a “Murtha Factor” in his approval ratings?

According to Real Clear Politics, George Bush’s approval ratings have increased from around a lowly 36% range to an average rating of 46% today. That is over a 10% increase since the democratic hawk began his campaigning to pull troops from Iraq and send them to Okinawa(?) before the job was complete.

Today, the Democratic definition of a Hawk made it in the news again with more encouragement for our military. Remember as you read this that Rep. Murtha is actually the “hawk” in the bunch!

Representative John Murtha is now urging young recruits to “not” enlist into the US military.

From a taped interview released on Monday:

A decorated Vietnam combat veteran who retired as a colonel after 37 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, Murtha told ABC News’ “Nightline” program that Iraq “absolutely” was a wrong war for President George W. Bush to have launched.

“Would you join (the military) today?,” he was asked in an interview taped on Friday.

“No,” replied Murtha of Pennsylvania, the top Democrat on the House of Representatives subcommittee that oversees defense spending and one of his party’s leading spokesmen on military issues.

“And I think you’re saying the average guy out there who’s considering recruitment is justified in saying ‘I don’t want to serve’,” the interviewer continued.

“Exactly right,” said Murtha, who drew White House ire in November after becoming the first ranking Democrat to push for a pullout of U.S. forces from Iraq as soon as it could be done safely.

Murtha did not respond directly when asked whether a lack of combat experience might have affected the decision-making of Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and their former top deputies.

Now, their “hawk” opposes staffing a military! And, they wonder why they look weak on defense?

Elephants in Academia says this about Murtha:

Think about it–he’s both denigrating the decision of those who did think it was noble to serve and volunteered, and actively discouraging new recruits.
