Shocker!… Actors & Activists Line Up to Support Deserter Watada

Surprise! The Hollywood Leftists lined up to show their support for Iraq War deserter U.S. Army 1st Lieutenant Ehren K. Watada as his trial opened up in Washington State today.
KITV reports:

The 28-year-old Hawaii-born officer and Kalani High School graduate is being tried in refusing to accept his deployment orders to Iraq this past June. The charges include conduct unbecoming an officer.

Lt. Watada pleaded not guilty today.
But, unfortunately for his defense, his “unbecoming comments” were captured on YouTube.

Watada knew he could count on a the diehard Hollywood Leftists to be there in his corner when his desertion trial opened up.

Actor Sean Penn waits to take to the stage among supporters of 1st Lt. Ehren Watada during a rally near the gates of Fort Lewis Army Base, DuPont, Wash., on the day Watada’s court-martial begins Monday, Feb. 5, 2007. Watada announced last June that he would refuse to go to Iraq with his unit, the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division. Now the 28-year-old Watada faces four years in prison if convicted on one count of missing movement and two counts of conduct unbecoming an officer. (Reuters)

Archbishop Desmond Tutu wrote a letter of support for Lt. Watada:

God bless you richly and stand by you just as God stood by the side of God’s servants in the fiery furnace described by the prophet Daniel.

Randi Rhodes– Talk show host from failed Air America

When the resolution to use force in Iraq was passed though The US Congress, the information Congress received was false.

All soldiers understand that they are never to comply with any order that is illegal.

Lt. Watada has indicated that he would be deployed to Afghanistan to fight in the Global War on Terrorism, but would not wage war in Iraq, a country that posed no threat to the United States.

The former pretend-President of the United States

Martin Sheen:

“I applaud Lieutenant Ehren Watada’s great, great courage and support his extraordinary efforts.”

Susan Sarandon offers this run-on sentence of support:

“If the definition of a patriot is one who loves and defends his country then Ehren Watada is truly a patriot for his refusal to serve in a war that is harming the people of Iraq and increasing the threat of harm to Americans as evidenced by a Pentagon paper report stating that American military intervention in Iraq has actually increased the threat of terrorism by uniting fundamentalists who perceive our presence there as a threat not only to their lives but to their culture and way of life.”

There are plenty more of the usual suspects lined up to support this deserter who signed up AFTER the war in Iraq had already started!
Dan Riehl has more on Waatada’s high profile activist father.
