Bad News For Dems… Baathist Leader Al-Douri Joins Coalition

THIS COULD BE HUGE!
Did the Iraqi Baathists just surrender???

Just as democrats were getting geared up for another surrender vote on Iraq–
Former Iraqi Baathists announced that they will join Coalition forces and battle Al-Qaeda in Iraq!

Izzat so?

Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, who was voted(?) to replace Saddam Hussein as the leader of the Iraqi Baathist Party after Saddam’s drop, has announced that he will join the Coalition forces in Iraq.
ADN Kronos reported:

Baghdad, 22 August (AKI) – The leader of Iraq’s banned Baath party, Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, has decided to join efforts by the Iraqi authorities to fight al-Qaeda, one of the party’s former top officials, Abu Wisam al-Jashaami, told pan-Arab daily Al Hayat.

“AlDouri has decided to sever ties with al-Qaeda and sign up to the programme of the national resistance, which includes routing Islamist terrorists and opening up dialogue with the Baghdad government and foreign forces,” al-Jashaami said.

Al-Douri has decided to deal directly with US forces in Iraq, according to al-Jashaami. He figures in the 55-card deck of “most wanted” officials from the former Iraqi regime issued by the US government.

In return, for cooperating in the fight against al-Qaeda, al-Douri has asked for guarantees over his men’s safety and for an end to Iraqi army attacks on his militias.

This ought to please those antiwar Democrats who are complaining about not enough political progress in Iraq.

Iraqi-American friend Haider Ajina says this about the the news:

Yes, al Douri (the red Satan). The Saudi’s must have put the pressure on him. he would only do this because he is loosing. I am afraid he may be buying time.

I think its like sharing your sleeping bag with a weak and tired rattle snake…

Interpol issued an arrest warrant for Izzat Abrhim al-Douri three days ago.

HotAir thinks today’s news is bogus.

Iraqi Baathists Choose Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri By Default As New Leader

Update: Poor democrats are already confused with how to retreat while the troops are making such great military gains. Today’s news won’t help matters.

UPDATE: (Thursday AM) The Baath denies al-Hayat reports:

In a statement posted on Albasrah.net, the Baath party strongly denies the content of the report published by Al-Hayat .

The Baath party says that “Al-Hayat’s article ” contains blatant lies” and reaffirms that rejects again any negotiation with the US unless based on its announced condition. The Baath party’s statement adds that al-Hayat article is part of a campaing to split the resistance and to confuse people.
