Truther Ahmadinejad Plans Visit to 9-11 Ruins With NYC Mayor

In his letter to President Bush last May, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad highlighted that 9-11 was an inside job:

“September eleven was not a simple operation.”

“Could it be planned and executed without coordination with intelligence and security services – or their extensive infiltration? Of course this is just an educated guess.”

“Why have the various aspects of the attacks been kept secret? Why are we not told who botched their responsibilities? And, why aren’t those responsible and the guilty parties identified and put on trial? All governments have a duty to provide security and peace of mind for their citizens.”

Again this year, the state run Iranian media pushed the lunacy that 9-11 was an inside job.

Now, Ahmadinejad wants to visit the ruins of that “Inside Job” when he visits New York next week.
The New York Sun is reporting:

In a move that has stunned New York, the Bloomberg administration is in discussions to escort the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to ground zero during his visit to New York next week, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said today.

The Iranian mission to the U.N. made the request to the New York City Police Department and the Secret Service, which will jointly oversee security during the leader’s two-day visit. Mr. Ahmadinejad is scheduled to arrive September 24 to speak to the U.N. General Assembly as the Security Council decides whether to increase sanctions against his country for its uranium enrichment program.

Mr. Kelly said the NYPD and Secret Service were in discussions with the Iranian Mission about the logistics for the possible visit, and whether it will take place at all. He said that for safety reasons related to ongoing construction at ground zero Mr. Ahmadinejad would not be allowed to descend into the pit.

“There has been some interest expressed in his visiting the area,” Mr. Kelly said. “It’s something that we are prepared to handle if in fact it does happen.”

STACLU has blog reaction and contact information to voice your concerns to this outrage.

Mitt Romney released the following statement on Mahmoud’s request:

“Ahmadinejad’s shockingly audacious request should be met with a vehement no. It’s inconceivable that any consideration would be given to the idea of entertaining the leader of a state sponsor of terror at Ground Zero. This would deeply offend the sensibilities of Americans from all corners of our nation. Instead of entertaining Ahmadinejad, we should be indicting him.”

Well said, Governor Romney!

UPDATE: Thanks Serendip– Mahmoud’s request was denied.

UPDATE 2: It looks like Mahmoud is going to visit Ground Zero anyway. Michelle Malkin is wanting to organize a protest.
