NAACP Invites Rev. Jeremiah Wright to Speak
The theme for the NAACP Dinner is “A Change Is Going To Come!”
…Amen to that!
He will no doubt get a standing ovation before he even opens his mouth.
Maybe he’ll include a few snippets from some of his sermons?
Freep.com and LGF Quick Links reported:
Controversial minister Jeremiah Wright will speak at the Detroit branch of the NAACP 53rd Annual Fight for Freedom Fund dinner.
Wright, the former minister of presidential candidate Barack Obama, has been under fire for remarks he’s made during his sermons about race relations, the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and black separatism. He recently retired as pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ, a 10,000-member megachurch located in Chicago.
The Fight for Freedom dinner, which annually attracts about 10,000 people, will be held April 27 at Cobo Hall. The gathering is a key fund-raiser for the Detroit Branch NAACP, and is billed as the largest sit-down dinner in the country.
It was not disclosed if the Reverend Wright would be selling tapes of his sermons after the event.
Maybe NAACP Chairman Julian Bond can give a nice Bush-bash for dessert?
UPDATE: The Detroit NAACP puts out a statement, via the LA Times:
LaToya Henry, the chapter’s communications coordinator, expanded on the invite in an e-mail to Times reporter Ben DuBose. Wright, she said, “has challenged the nation, challenged our comfort zone and stimulated nation-wide discussion on the issues of how we must move forward together as both a nation and a people. We look forward to his participation” at the NAACP gathering.
