Good News!… Taliban Factions Join Forces

Baitullah Mehsud (Or Baitullah Mehsood, pictured above) and his fighters captured a company-sized military convoy in South Waziristan during a complex military operation in early September 2007 (Long War Journal). His fighters also captured two different Pakistani forts in 2008 and he is suspected of being behind Benazir Bhutto’s assassination. The CIA also agreed that the assassins of Benazir Bhutto, the former Pakistani prime minister, were directed by Baitullah Mehsud.

Three top Taliban factions decided to join forces today in Pakistan.
The Daily Times reported:

Top Taliban leaders from North and South Waziristan met on Friday to forge an alliance, said sources. The sources said that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan chief Baitullah Mehsood and Taliban leaders Maulvi Nazir and Hafiz Gul Bahadar met at an undisclosed location in Waziristan and agreed to form an alliance. The sources said that the three Taliban leaders had formed a 13-member committee and authorised it to make ‘all decisions’. They also agreed that they would jointly defend attacks against them, and make plans in consultation with the committee.
