Eiffel Tower Evacuated

French officials evacuated the Eiffel Tower today after a suspicious package was found.

Chron is reporting that nearly 4,000 tourists were evacuated from the site after a package was found on the plaza beneath the tower.   An anonymous caller warned that the Paris monument would be blown up at 1700 GMT.

Update….The Washington Post reported no explosives were found, and the site in the French capital was reopened to visitors more than two hours after the original warning. They point out that France’s terror alert has been on level red, the second-highest level on its alert system.
