Oprah Winfrey told reporters she was miffed when a Swiss shop clerk wouldn’t sell her a handbag… Made of crocodile skin.

The accused Italian bag lady, holding the crocodile bag, later said it was a lie and that she felt ‘powerless’ and in the grip of a ‘cyclone’ after Winfrey’s accusations. (Daily Mail)

The Daily Mail reported:

She is one of the richest and most famous women on the planet.

So when Oprah Winfrey popped in to an upmarket boutique for a new designer handbag she was taken aback when the shop assistant refused to show her a bag.
She said the £24,460 crocodile skin item was ‘too expensive’.

Instead of making a scene, the billionaire TV magnate calmly left the Swiss store.

It seems like an odd purchase for PETA’s 2008 Person of the Year.

Oprah won the award from PETA in 2008.
The LA Times reported:

Oprah Winfrey, has been named PETA’s 2008 Person of the Year, the animal rights organization has announced.

PETA says Winfrey was chosen for “[using] her fame and listening audience to help the less fortunate, including animals. She has used her show to uncover horrific cases of cruelty to animals in puppy mills and on factory farms, and Oprah even used the show to highlight the cruelty-free vegan diet that she tried!”
