Al-Qaeda operatives once already successfully executed an attack on the US consulate in Benghazi.

Israeli forces foiled an attack on the US Embassy in Tel Aviv. Two men from Jerusalem and one from the West Bank were recruited a terrorist operative in the Gaza Strip.
FOX News reported:

Israel has foiled an Al Qaeda plan to attack the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv, Fox News confirmed.

There is no indication whether the plot went any further than the talking stages and it is still unclear who exactly is behind the plot.

Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency, said Wednesday it arrested three Palestinians it accuses of plotting to carry out bombings, shootings, kidnappings and other attacks.

It said the men, two from Jerusalem and one from the West Bank, were recruited by an operative based in the Gaza Strip who worked for Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Shin Bet alleges the Palestinians planned on attacking a Jerusalem conference center with firearms and then kill rescue workers with a truck bomb.

The Times of Israel has more on the planned attacks.

The planned attacks included twin suicide bombings, against the US Embassy in Tel Aviv and the main Israeli convention center in Jerusalem, where President Barack Obama gave the centerpiece speech of his Israel visit last March. Other planned attacks included targeting an Israeli bus and Jewish homes in East Jerusalem.
