Baton Rouge police arrested two teens for knockout attack and murder.
The two teens struck the victim causing him to fall to the concrete and strike his head.
The Advocate reported:
Baton Rouge police on Tuesday arrested two teens accused of beating up a 55-year-old man on Feb. 1, causing him to fall, hit his head and suffer brain hemorrhaging.
The victim, John Bannon, 1654 Clear Lake Lane, Baton Rouge, died from his injuries Friday, according to the arrest warrant for Windal Lavel Herring.
Police booked Herring, 17, 8211 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge, into Parish Prison on counts of second-degree murder and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Police also arrested a 15-year-old Tuesday accused in the beating, Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.
The teen will be booked on a count of second-degree murder upon his release from a hospital, where he was taken for treatment of a broken arm after jumping from a second-story window as police tried to apprehend him, McKneely said.
Investigators think Herring and the juvenile may have attempted to rob Bannon when the fatal injury occurred, but they are hearing other stories as well, McKneely said.
Another possible motive is that the teens attacked Bannon because they wanted to see who could hit the hardest, McKneely said.
