Brown family attorney Benjamin Crump said the family will likely file civil suit against Officer Darren Wilson.
The Brown family is very concerned that Wilson will not be indicted.
CNN reported:
Local and federal law enforcement officials have sent out alerts that they are getting ready for protests across the country following the grand jury ruling in the shooting death of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown by Officer Darren Wilson. Brown’s father is even shooting a public service announcement urging calm.
The Brown family “is very concerned” that Wilson will not be indicted, said Benjamin Crump, the family’s attorney.
“Historically … when you think about when police officers are ever held accountable when they kill young people of color, it’s an issue,” said Crump. “Normally when they kill our children, it’s just swept under the rug.”
If Wilson is indicted, “he will still get his day in court. Nobody’s going to say he didn’t get his constitutional rights of innocent until proven guilty,” said Crump. “The real issue is if he’s not even charged. Then the Brown family has no chance of getting justice for their child.”
Mike Brown was shot dead in Ferguson, Missouri on August 9, 2014.
Michael Brown robbed a local Ferguson convenience store shortly before his death. Then Brown smashed police officer Darren Wilson in the face, severely injuring Wilson, before he was shot dead.
