A New York Times reporter whose name leads the byline on the Times’ article on the death of American Kayla Mueller wrote on Twitter it was ‘heartbreaking’ for her to learn Mueller helped Palestinians against Israel and yet was treated by ISIS as a “kuffar.”

Rukmini Callimachi, Foreign Correspondent for the Times said on Twitter Tuesday night:

“Among the heartbreaking things I learned about Kayla Mueller today: She camped out in front of a Palestinian home abt 2 b bulldozed /1”

“She stood up for injustice against Muslims wherever she saw it. Yet her captors treated her just like other “kuffar.”

The Urban Dictionary defines ‘kuffar’ as:

“Also spelled ‘kafir’ or ‘kaffir’, Kuffar is a highly derogatory Arabic term used to refer to non-Muslims, though it is usually directed less against “People of the Book” (Christians and Jews) and more against others (Hindus, Buddhists, Shintoists, etc)…”

As The Gateway Pundit reported earlier Tuesday, the ISM (International Solidarity Movement) issued a statement praising Mueller for her work with the group in ‘Occupied East Jerusalem.’

The New York Times article led by Callimachi reported on Mueller’s anti-Israel actions:

“After graduating in 2009, Ms. Mueller moved to India, and soon after to Israel. In 2010, she volunteered with the International Solidarity Movement in the Palestinian territories, according to Abdullah Abu Rahma, the group’s coordinator in the village of Bil’in.

“He said that Ms. Mueller joined them in using nonviolent means to protest the Israeli occupation. She lived with families in East Jerusalem in order to try to prevent the demolition of their homes. On her blog, she described sleeping in front of half-destroyed homes, using her body as a shield against the bulldozers they feared were coming.”
