MyFoxHouston reported via Twitter the deputy was shot in the head and three times in the back.

“The officer was shot once in the head, and 3 times in the back. Chaotic scene on West Rd. at Telge. Avoid area if possible.”

KTRK-TV reported a manhunt is on for the gunman.

“Sources tell us the deputy was in uniform and pumping gas when someone walked up and shot him repeatedly.

“”We were driving on West Road and we heard the shots, and when I turned and looked, the lady was screaming over top of him. So we busted a U-turn into the parking lot and that’s when we saw what had happened,” witness Mckenzie Stalter said.

“Stalter says she saw a woman sobbing over the officer’s body.

“”She was laying on top him. She was saying that was her best friend and that he had two kids,” she said.

“LifeFlight initially was dispatched to the scene, but it was later called off.

“Stalter says the suspect was gone by the time she had pulled into the parking lot and called 911. A manhunt for that suspect is still underway. We’re told officers searching for a red Ford Ranger tracked down the vehicle, but there were no suspects in sight.”

“Authorities say the deputy was at a gas station in northwest Houston Friday night when a black man approached him and opened fire. The deputy was hit multiple times.”

KTRK also reported a description of the shooter.

“Harris County Deputy Thomas Gilliland says the deputy was in uniform and pumping gas when someone walked up and shot him repeatedly.

“”A male suspect came up from behind the deputy and shot the deputy multiple times. The deputy then fell to ground. The suspect then continued over to him and shot the deputy again multiple times as he laid on the ground,” Gilliland said.”

…”Now a manhunt for that suspect is still underway. Officers described him only as a dark-complexioned man, about 5 feet 11 inches tall. He was wearing a white T-shirt and red shorts, and fled the scene in a dark red Ford Ranger.”

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office posted more on Twitter:

“URGENT: Suspect is a dark complected male, 5’10 – 6 ft, white t-shirt and red shorts in a maroon or red fleet side extended cab Ford Ranger.”

“Male suspected of fatally shooting deputy is guessed to be between 20-25 y/o with short hair. Traveled westbound on West Rd #HouNews”

KPRC-TV reported the deputy, who has not been named, was a ten-year veteran.

“The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the deputy was a 10-year veteran on the force who was assigned to the West District patrol in District 5. The officer’s name has not been released.”
