Such Tolerance… Far Left Magazine Advocates Burning Kim Davis to Death

When jail is not enough…
Liberal magazine The Week believes jail is too easy a punishment for devout Christians who oppose gay marriage – Burning Christians to death is the way to go.

The Examiner reported:

The entire Kim Davis affair seems to have provoked some of the most egregious rhetoric from those who support gay marriage. Perhaps the most radical, violent anti-Davis piece written so far was published on Tuesday at The Week. In his article, Michael Brendan Dougherty actually suggested burning her to death as punishment for refusing a judge’s edict to issue marriage licenses to gay couples.

The article, entitled, “Burn Kim Davis,” starts off with a laundry list of somewhat sensible options that could have prevented the entire controversy. Dougherty then proceeds to invoke a more medieval form of punishment hearkening back to the days of the Salem witch trials. He concludes his article with a suggestion that Davis be burned to death, calling it the “obvious” solution.

Any normal punishment rewards her with the comfort of solidarity from right-wing Christians, or her own sense of moral self-approval,” he said. “Therefore the only way to avoid granting her such ‘martyrdom’ is to actually martyr her. That’s the really perverse thing about Christians who make a spectacle like this. The only way the state can really punish them is to inform them that their suffering is meaningless and proving that God doesn’t exist by sending them to the darkness of oblivion in torment. Justice Kennedy has issued his theological bull; let Kentucky officials in defiance of it be put on a pyre.”

Translation: Burn Kim Davis to death. Forget the Constitution, forget due process, forget prohibitions against cruel and inhumane punishment. He wasn’t finished, however, wrapping up his screed by saying: “When the smoke settles there will be no GoFundMe campaign, save perhaps for a small carbon offset.”

Dougherty even promoted his article on Twitter by advocating she be burned alive. “Given everyone’s premises, there is only one proper way to punish Kim Davis: Burn her to death,” he tweeted.

Naturally, some agreed with him. “And people say common sense is dead,” one person said in response. Another person called his piece “[a] fine essay.” The idea of burning Davis to death, however, didn’t sit too well with others.

Davis was released from jail yesterday.
