Democrats to File Ethics Complaint Against Kevin McCarthy Over Benghazi Statements

Nice job, Kevin.
Foul-mouthed Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) will file an ethics complaint in Congress today against Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-FL) after his bumbling statements about the Select Committee on Benghazi being a political maneuver for Republicans.

The Agenda Project released this statement today.

Today, Representative Alan Grayson will file an ethics complaint against presumed future Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy for misappropriating taxpayer funds for political purposes. The ethics complaint comes in the wake of McCarthy’s admission last week on The Hannity Show that the Select Committee on Benghazi was designed to hurt Secretary Clinton’s presidential aspirations.

On Monday, in a video titled The New McCarthyism, the Agenda Project Action Fund demanded that Congress “investigate the investigators.” In less than 2 days, the video reached more than 200,000 views. The Agenda Project Action Fund then launched a petition on Tuesday that gathered thousands of signatures within the first few hours.

“The public is clearly disgusted,” said Erik Altieri, Director of Communications for the Agenda Project Action Fund. “These scare tactics have no place in our Congress. If this is what the Republican majority has planned for the next year, they should look forward to getting voted out of office. It is now clear that the Select Committee on Benghazi is nothing more than an multimillion dollar, taxpayer funded political hit job. Representative McCarthy and his conservative colleagues are embracing tactics straight out of the ‘red scare’ era. These tactics are at best unethical and at worst illegal and we are pleased that Representative Grayson has filed an official ethics complaint against those involved.”

The Select Committee on Benghazi has currently cost the United States more than $4.6 million dollars and has lasted more than 500 days. That total that does not include costs related to the independent Accountability Review Board; the eight previous reports by seven congressional committees; the time, money, and resources consumed by federal agencies to comply with Select Committee requests; or the opportunity cost of not spending this money elsewhere, like improving security for our diplomatic officers abroad.

“We applaud Congressman Grayson for taking this important step to ensure transparency and ethics in government. It is our sincere hope that his colleagues in Congress, both Republicans and Democrats will join in the effort to prevent the ‘Peoples House’ from falling completely into the hands of those who seek to protect and expand their corrupted political power,” added Erik Altieri.
