The Progressive left is in full fledged denial mode. The President still refuses to blame radical Islam for the terrorist attacks in Paris, France last week. And during the most recent Democratic Presidential debate, the candidates did their best to avoid the “I” word by blaming everything but the kitchen sink for the horrid murder of French civilians.
But now it seems that American Progressives are no longer alone when it comes to blaming anything but Islam for the violent acts of terrorists.
On Tuesday, in an effort to echo the ridiculous statements of a U.S. State Department Spokeswoman this last February, the Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon stated that the cause of violent extremism is actually a lack of jobs and opportunities:
“The United Nations Security Council held an already scheduled debate on conflict prevention today amid added urgency fuelled by last week’s terrorist attacks in Beirut and Paris, with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stressing that counter-terrorism must also tackle such root causes as bad governance, injustice and exclusion.
“Today’s violent conflicts and violent extremism are often rooted in a mix of exclusion, inequality, mismanagement of natural resources, corruption, oppression, governance failures, and the frustration and alienation that accompany a lack of jobs and opportunities,” he said at the opening of the Council’s day-long debate on ‘Security, development and the root causes of conflicts.’”
So if we just open up more McDonalds and Wal-Marts in the Middle East, then Islamic terrorist groups would be less inclined to want to kill infidels because it’s hard for them to pull a trigger, or detonate a bomb, when their hands are full of Big Macs and chocolate shakes while shopping for big screen TVs? Really??
Until the Progressive left admits that the teachings of Islam breed the violent extremism the world is suffering from today, terrorism will never be defeated.
Until then, the only people who will suffer are those of us living in the Western World, who will be led to our deaths by the same fools who believe that radical, religious Islamic terrorists give a damn about what they do for a living, or what economic opportunities they may, or may not have.
