Hank Johnson

Congressman Hank Johnson of Georgia makes you wonder how some people ever get elected to public office. In 2010, he actually worried that Guam could capsize.

Even CBS News covered it:

Hank Johnson Worries Guam Could “Capsize” After Marine Buildup

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) is raising some eyebrows with a comment he made about the U.S. territory of Guam during a House Armed Services Committee hearing last Thursday.

In a discussion regarding a planned military buildup on the Pacific island, Johnson expressed some concerns about the plans to Adm. Robert Willard, head of the U.S. Pacific fleet.

“My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize,” Johnson said. Willard paused and replied, “We don’t anticipate that.”

Now he’s apparently an expert on the free market.

Rep. Hank Johnson: ‘Free Market Way of Thinking Doesn’t Work’

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) says that America has practiced the free market system over the last 40 years and “that it doesn’t work.”

Johnson made the comments while speaking on the House floor Thursday against the Sunshine For Regulatory Decrees and Settlements Act. The bill aims at making the government give public notice when entering into legal negotiations that may result in new regulations.

“There has been a movement over the last 30, 40 years to turn people against the government,” Johnson said. “This mantra is that government is too big, we don’t need any rules to govern human conduct, let everything work itself out and the free market system will make it rain for everybody. Well, we’ve seen after 30, 40 years of practicing that free market way of thinking that it doesn’t work.”
