Police Officer Shot in Sanibel, Florida – 3rd Ambush Shooting Today

A police officer was shot in in a drive-by assassination attempt in Sanibel, Florida Sunday night.

He was the third officer shot in an ambush shooting today!

Officers came under similar attacks in San Antonio, St. Louis and now Sanibel.

NBC2 in Florida reported:

Sanibel Police officials say the suspect who shot a police officer on the island Sunday evening is in custody.

The suspect was taken into custody in the Dunes neighborhood after exchanging gunfire with officers from the Sanibel Police Department.

According to police, an officer was shot and injured during a traffic stop around 8 p.m. Sources identified the officer as Jarred Ciccone.

We learned Officer Ciccone was shot during a drive-by while he was conducting a traffic stop.

The suspect fled the scene and was located in the 1400 block of Sandcastle road.

Residents of the Dunes neighborhood were told to lock their doors and stay away from all windows. The police department has given the neighborhood the all clear.

Officer Ciccone was taken to the Lee Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.

** A St. Louis police sergeant was shot twice in the face tonight in an ambush shooting on Hampton Avenue and Pernod.

** A San Antonio police officer was shot dead during an ambush attack this morning.
