Speaker Paul Ryan responded to leaked October audio of him bashing Republican nominee Donald Trump five weeks before the election.
The audio was leaked by Breitbart on Monday night.
In the Oct. 10, 2016 call, Ryan says clearly he is done with Trump altogether.
“I am not going to defend Donald Trump—not now, not in the future.”
Paul Ryan gave the OK to House members to pull away from the Republican nominee. That weekend dozens of House Republicans urged Trump to step down and withdrew support for Donald Trump.
Paul Ryan: “It’s no secret Donald and I had our ups and downs, the president and I had our ups and downs during the campaign. But we merged forces at the end of the campaign. I campaigned with Mike Pence. I supported Donald Trump. We merged forces and since then we’ve been working hand and glove together. Honestly, I got such thick skin. This is such ancient history. I’m surprised it’s even a story.”
Ryan refused to campaign with Donald Trump throughout the election.
