President Trump Taps Jared Kushner To Head White House Office of American Innovation

The most recent development as President Trump continues to recruit innovators and government reformers to lead key administrative roles, Trump has tapped Jared Kushner to lead a new “SWAT” team organized to bring American business innovation to government. Kushner will lead the White House Office of American Innovation, which is set to operate as its own government think-tank that will report directly to President Trump with ideas. The rest of the SWAT teams staff will be comprised of former business executives and leaders — including tech titans such as Apple’s Tim Cook and Microsoft’s Bill Gates — who will work together on bringing fresh ideas and innovation to the government. If carried out correctly and effectively, White House Office of American Innovation has the possibility to help create a lasting legacy for Trump’s presidency built around conservative principle and modernization. Via Washington Post:

“All Americans, regardless of their political views, can recognize that government stagnation has hindered our ability to properly function, often creating widespread congestion and leading to cost overruns and delays,” Trump said in a statement to The Washington Post. “I promised the American people I would produce results, and apply my ‘ahead of schedule, under budget’ mentality to the government.” […]

Kushner is positioning the new office as “an offensive team” — an aggressive, nonideological ideas factory capable of attracting top talent from both inside and outside of government, and serving as a conduit with the business, philanthropic and academic communities.

“We should have excellence in government,” Kushner said Sunday in an interview in his West Wing office. “The government should be run like a great American company. Our hope is that we can achieve successes and efficiencies for our customers, who are the citizens.”
