FOX Insider reports:

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence on many sides,” the president said.

The president said that while hatred and violence erupt in Virginia there are “so many incredibly great things happening in our country,” such as economic growth.

“So when I watch Charlottesville to me it’s very, very sad.”

“We have to respect each other,” he said. “Ideally we have to love each other.”

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency this morning after the “Unite the Right” rally spiraled into rioting.

The chief executive called for a “swift restoration of law and order” in Virginia.

“It’s been going on for a long time in our country,” he continued. “Not Donald Trump, not Barack Obama. It’s been going on for a long, long time.”

“We want to get the situation straightened out in Charlottesville, and we want to study it,” Trump said. “And we want to see what we’re doing wrong as a country where things like this can happen.”

“We have to come together as Americans with love for our nation and really and I say this so strongly, with true affection for each other.”

At least one person is dead after a car plowed into Charlottesville protesters. Police have taken the suspected driver into custody. Mic tech reporter Taylor Lorenz reports “the police have the plates, the car, and the man in custody.”

Earlier, Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller told Fox News that three vehicles had collided in downtown Charlottesville. Geller added that the car seen backing away with a smashed hood in the above video had been located.

The crash occurred approximately two hours after clashes in which hundreds of people screamed, chanted, threw punches, hurled water bottles and unleashed chemical sprays on each other ahead of the scheduled noon demonstration.
