Obama Holdover Hoaxed Trump Administration Into Thinking He Would Resign — Did More Damage Instead

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau head Richard Cordray believed Hillary Clinton was all but set to win the 2016 presidential election, opening up an opportunity to run for the Governor of Ohio. Cordray believed if the Democrats ran the White House, his department was safe from Republican efforts to dismantle it. Yet, when Hillary Clinton lost, Cordray opted to stay put, to the surprise and dismay of the Trump administration.

From The Weekly Standard:

For several months, the worst-kept secret in Washington has been that Richard Cordray, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s first director, will resign and enter the 2018 Ohio governor’s race. The best-kept secret may be that Cordray decided not to resign the day Donald Trump was elected, and pulled off a spectacular political hoax with some unintentional help from the president’s advisers.

Cordray did hope to run to replace term-limited Ohio governor John Kasich when it appeared that Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 election and Democrats would retain control of the agency they created through the Dodd-Frank Act in 2010.

A glimpse at the director’s dilemma can be seen in a recent congressional report on the CFPB’s failure to investigate the Wells Fargo fraud, Cordray’s disingenuous testimony during the ensuing congressional hearings, and the bureau’s refusal to comply with congressional subpoenas for related documents.

The Trump administration has faced issues with leaking and Obama holdovers throughout the government. According to a report by the Daily Caller, National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster, is actively protecting Obama holdovers occupying top White House roles. Dozens of such positions make of a sizable percentage of the National Security Council (NSC) – “nearly one in six.”

Daily Caller reports:

About 40 of the National Security Council’s (NSC) 250 officials — nearly one in six — are Obama administration holdovers, according to TheDCNF’s analysis. The holdovers include NSC directors for Korea, China, Iran, Pakistan, Egypt, Eastern Europe, Israel-Palestine, South America, North Africa and sub-Sahara Africa. Holdovers also advise on weapons of mass destruction, counterterrorism, non-proliferation, arms control, defense policy, immigration, and homeland preparedness.

“The problem is the allegiance they have to their former administration and their position and stances on national security,” said Col. James Waurishuk (Ret.), a 30-year veteran senior intelligence official and a former NSC official. “It’s crazy when they represent pretty much 180 degrees of what Trump is trying to do.”

Some blame McMaster for the holdovers. “He has protected and coddled them,” alleged one former NSC staffer who requested anonymity.

Conservative radio host and best selling author, Laura Ingraham recently took to her twitter account to attack NatSec Advisor H.R. McMaster following his purge of Trump loyalists while the leaks continue. Laura Ingraham tweeted, “Obama holdovers at NSC or State Dept who are leaking should do real time for the leaks. Why has McMaster fired actual Trump supporters?”

Laura Ingraham also tweeted out a New York Times article detailing how H.R. McMaster repudiated language being used by the Trump administration such as ‘radical Islam’ or ‘Islamic terrorism’. “H.R. McMaster breaks with administration on views of Islam”.
