REPORT: Larry Kudlow Joining Trump White House As National Economic Council Director

President Donald Trump could announce his decision to name CNBC senior contributor Larry Kudlow as his National Economic Council director as early as Thursday, CNBC reports.

CNBC reports:

Kudlow would replace Gary Cohn, who left the White House earlier this month amid disagreements about tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. The longtime CNBC personality advocates for free trade and generally opposes tariffs.

When Cohn left, Kudlow expressed his disappointment with the move. On Tuesday, the president said he would welcome disagreement from Kudlow, who he said had a “good chance” of landing the job.

“We don’t agree on everything, but in this case I think that’s good,” Trump said. “I want to have different opinions. We agree on most. He now has come around to believing in tariffs as a negotiating point.”

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Kudlow says he has accepted the position.

Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) tweeted his support of the move.

“Larry Kudlow would be a great choice to be director of the White House National Economic Council. Larry is a pro-growth champion and will serve the President well. I hope the reports are true!”
